Some days, you strike personal development gold.
While poking around Google tonight, I came across this blog post on A Modern View, which linked to a page with the original vinyl recording of The Strangest Secret by Earl Nightingale.
That in and of itself was quite the resource… I wrote about the version that Mark Victor Hansen has made available not long ago, but this particular version is really neat - especially with the introduction by Mr. Nightingale’s wife, Dianna Nightingale.
The only problem that I saw with this particular version was that it was only available as an audio stream - which meant that in order to listen to it, one needed to have a web browser opened and be on the web page. Nothing to download and bring along on my iPod. 
But you know what? Problems are only opportunities to discover new ways of doing things.
I remembered Audacity, the super powerful free audio editor. And I wondered if it had the ability to capture audio streams.
I was pleasantly suprised that it does!
So I downloaded Audacity, followed the instructions on the Wiki, and as I write this, I’m listening to my new favorite version of the Strangest Secret on my MP3 player.
Here are the steps:
- Download and install Audacity from http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
- Follow these instructions from the Audacity Wiki to get the settings correct
- Start a new project in Audacity
- Open the page with the streaming audio
- Hit “Record” on Audacity
- Hit “Play” on the streaming audio
- Enjoy the recording!
- Hit “Stop” on Audacity when the recording finishes
- Export your new audio file in the format you want
- Transfer it your MP3 player of choice
- Be Happy
Of course, this process can be used with any streaming audio. I haven’t tested it on some of my favorite YouTube channels… but that’s up next!
